Thrive

Do you want to thrive? Do you wish you felt better and had more energy? Do you wish your brain functioned better? Give your mind and body what it needs. Your mind and body is like nature, which needs rain, sun, nutrients, the right soil, and more, to be healthy, vibrant, and thrive. Kind of a large number of things, right?

You are no different. You need a number of things to thrive. You need healthy food and water, good friends, family (or good friends that a become family), exercise, on-going learning (reading, taking classes, podcasts...). It helps to know your personality type so that you know how you will function in different situations. Many people do better cultivating a faith in a higher power. It helps to have a plan, not to mention being grateful....

Do you feel overloaded yet?

This may sound like a lot, but you can accomplish many of these things by the time you walk out the door in the morning. My favorite leadership coach, Robin Sharma, calls it "The Holy Hour." You set aside an hour and for the first 20 minutes you exercise, for the next 20 minutes you read something educational, maybe related to your work or family, and the last 20 minutes you plan out your day. Your 20 minutes of exercise will energize you for the day. How beneficial is that when one of the main complaints people have today is lack of energy. Your 20 minutes of learning will sharpen your mind, also creating more aliveness, and your 20 minutes of planning will ease the load you carry and help you be ready for the days events.

When you take this mental and physical vitality with you to breakfast, it will positively impact how you talk and engage with your family/roommates, or at work if you live alone. It's a simple method to use in a complex world. By the time you have walked out the door you have done a number of things that nourish and grow your life.
