Things that Have Shaped You
Who are you? Where do you come from? Who are your parents? Who are your grandparents? Where did they grow up? What fashioned their lives? Love? War? Community? Isolation? Trauma? Blessings? Abundance?
None of us are just here. Those who came before each of us had lives. They lived in a time where culture had certain bents, certain ideologies. Their generation was meant to bring something new to the world. Each generation is suppose to disrupt something, leave their imprint on life. It keeps things fresh and moving.
Each of us has what our family line has lived through in us in varying degrees. When visiting one of my uncles last summer with my family, he talked about loving soup and so did his sisters. My daughters and I looked at each other. I make soup all the time.
So that's where it comes from. That a side of the family.
Take some time to look back to see who they were. Their names, family members, the countries their families originated from.
It could help you understand your life a little better.
I remember reading a story about a woman who cut her bacon up real small before she cooked it. People would ask her about it and finally she asked her mother, who also cut her bacon up real small, why she did it. It turned out the great, great grandma only had a small frying pan so she cut up the bacon into tiny pieces to fit it into the pan.
Ah ha. Grin. Laugh.
Each of us is a verse in the story of our generational line and in the time we live. What if it's important for you to understand your family history. Because it might help you to understand yourself better. It might keep you from making the same mistakes, or to continue with the same habits/beliefs/values that worked so well.
AND allow you to adjust to what is currently happening.
AND then set your eyes into the future, with the understanding.
